The Role We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Accounts Assistant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build their career in a professional practice environment. You will provide essential support to our senior accountants while managing day-to-day financial tasks for our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Bookkeeping: Maintaining accurate financial records for various clients using accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage).
  • VAT Returns: Assisting in the preparation and timely filing of VAT returns.
  • Payroll & PAYE: Processing monthly payroll for clients, including managing RTI submissions and pension contributions.
  • Accounts Preparation: Supporting the senior team in preparing year-end accounts and financial statements.
  • Tax Support: Assisting with the preparation of personal and corporation tax returns.
  • Client Communication: Acting as a point of contact for client queries via phone and email, ensuring a high level of professional service.
  • Administrative Tasks: General office administration to ensure the smooth running of the practice.

Ideal candidate

  • Experience: At least 1–2 years of experience in an accounting environment (experience within a practice is highly preferred).
  • Qualifications: AAT Level 3 or 4 (completed or in progress) or a degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel and experience with cloud accounting software (Xero/QuickBooks).
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliability: Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
